The Impact of AI on Medical Coding with Raemarie Jimenez
Speaker Bio: Raemarie Jimenez, a nationally recognized speaker and thought leader with over 30 years of healthcare industry experience, serves as President of Membership and Content at AAPC, supporting over 275,000 members across 52+ countries. She has shaped industry standards by aligning membership, product, and content strategies to enhance professional success. As AAPC’s first Chief Product Officer, she led product strategy for certification exams, distance learning, and education licensing. A coding liaison to the AMA CPT® Editorial Panel, Jimenez contributes to refining healthcare coding standards. Her career includes leadership roles at a large healthcare system and an education organization, where she advanced billing, coding, education, and client services. Dedicated to empowering the healthcare workforce, she emphasizes authenticity, empathy, and collaboration to improve patient care and satisfaction. Objectives 1. Explain where AI fits in the coding workflow from documentation capture through claim submission and why human oversight remains essential. 2. Identify common AI tools used in coding and billing such as CAC, clinical summarization, denials prediction, and eligibility automation, including their strengths and limitations. 3. Apply basic quality and compliance checks to AI-assisted outputs by verifying code selection against official guidelines and payer policy. 4. Describe entry-level ways students can use AI responsibly while protecting privacy and avoiding plagiarism. This session introduces coding students to how artificial intelligence is showing up in today’s revenue cycle. We will break down tools like computer-assisted coding and ambient clinical documentation, explain where AI helps with speed and accuracy, and clarify what still requires human judgment. Students will see how AI can support early career tasks while understanding common pitfalls and compliance expectations. Click the link below to learn more about this event and our presenter. |
