Keyword v Subject searching
Keyword searching is when you begin with words you know. As you see results and learn more about your topic your vocabulary will increase. This is the start of moving from keyword searching to subject searching. Articles will have many words. Keyword searches bring back results on all those articles. A subject is an indexed term. Each article has only a handful of subjects; they indicate what the article is really about.
Scholarly articles are located in scholarly publications. A scholarly publication is one that uses an Editorial Board to approve published content. This Board adds to the credibility of the publications. Scholarly articles within a scholarly publication can be identified by the presence of an ABSTRACT, author credentials, and References or works cited information.
Use the GSCM Electronic Resources tab to access library resources to search for scholarly articles in EBSCO and ProQuest.
