Open source library materials are available to be used by all students free of charge. However, it is important to recognize that even open source materials are protected by copyright and use of those materials may be subject to license terms.
Before using an open source materials, please be sure to check the terms of the license as it will define the permitted uses of the materials and any particular license requirements.
In many cases, the license will be embedded in the materials themselves. In some cases, the materials may contain an icon referring to a form of Creative Commons License. For a list of these licenses and their specific terms, you can go to https://creativecommons.org/share-your-work/licensing-types-examples/licensing-examples/.
The license may cover the following subjects:
o The type of use of the material that is permitted and whether you can modify or adapt the material.
o Whether you can use the material for commercial or non-commercial purposes.
o Whether you need to provide attribution (i.e. credit) to the original author of the work.
o Whether you need to distribute any modified work on the same terms.
